Half Day or Full Day? Choosing Dog Day Care in Grove, OK

August 29, 2026 · jaythornton000 · 6 min read

Short version: PetSquad Grove offers half day and full day daycare at 63248 E 290 Rd, with supervised play groups, rest and nap time, and enrichment activities. We open at 7:00a Monday through Friday. Half days start at $12 and full days at $25.

The half day versus full day question comes up at our front desk every week, and the honest answer is that it depends less on your schedule than most people expect. It depends on your dog.

When a half day is the right call

Puppies and young dogs still building stamina. A four month old puppy in a group of adult dogs will run themselves into exhaustion because they do not know how to stop. Half days let them build up.

Dogs new to group play. The first few visits should end while your dog is still having a good time. Ending on a high note is how a dog decides daycare is a good place. Ending after they are overtired is how they decide it is not.

Senior dogs. Plenty of older dogs still love the social part but do not need six hours of it. Half days give them the company without the soreness the next morning.

Grooming days. If your dog is in for a groom anyway, a half day around the appointment fills the gap instead of you making two trips.

When a full day is the right call

High energy dogs. If your dog is a working breed or just wired that way, a half day takes the edge off and a full day actually resets them. There is a real difference in what comes home.

Long work days. Grove and the surrounding area is a commute for a lot of people. If you are gone nine hours, a full day covers it and your dog is not home alone waiting.

Dogs who have settled in. Once a dog knows the group and has friends in it, full days stop being tiring and start being the point.

The day before a trip. A full day before an overnight stay means your dog arrives at boarding already comfortable in the building.

At Grove, a half day is $12 and a full day is $25. The booking form on the Grove daycare page prices your pick before you request the date.

What is included either way

  • Supervised play groups
  • Rest and nap time
  • Enrichment activities

Rest time is not filler. A daycare that runs dogs hard for eight straight hours sends home a wrecked dog, and owners assume that is what daycare is supposed to do. It is not. Structured rest is what makes a dog want to come back tomorrow.

Dogs are grouped by temperament and play style rather than size alone. A gentle seventy pound dog and a pushy twenty pound dog do not belong in the same group just because one of them is small.

Carol summed up the Grove experience about as well as we could: her dog Thor loves to go and comes home tired and happy, and she loves the daycare photos and reports.

Add-ons

Add a bath. Useful on a Friday, and very useful in summer if your dog has been in the lake all week.

Report card. The photo and note version of the day. It is the item our clients mention most in reviews, and it is worth the small add for the first few visits while you are still deciding whether your dog likes it here.

Pairing daycare with a boarding stay

Grove does daycare and boarding in the same building, so a daycare day before an overnight means your dog arrives at boarding already comfortable with the place and the group. If you have a trip coming up, a day or two of daycare beforehand makes the first overnight much easier. See boarding at PetSquad Grove.

Not necessarily, but start with half days and tell us up front. Shy dogs often do well once they find one or two dogs they like, and our team can steer that rather than leaving it to chance.

Can I board and do daycare in the same week?

Yes. Boarding dogs join the same play groups during the day, so a dog who already knows daycare settles into an overnight stay much faster.
