When a half day is the right call
Puppies and young dogs still building stamina. A four month old puppy in a group of adult dogs will run themselves into exhaustion because they do not know how to stop. Half days let them build up.
Dogs new to group play. The first few visits should end while your dog is still having a good time. Ending on a high note is how a dog decides daycare is a good place. Ending after they are overtired is how they decide it is not.
Senior dogs. Plenty of older dogs still love the social part but do not need six hours of it. Half days give them the company without the soreness the next morning.
Grooming days. If your dog is in for a groom anyway, a half day around the appointment fills the gap instead of you making two trips.
When a full day is the right call
High energy dogs. If your dog is a working breed or just wired that way, a half day takes the edge off and a full day actually resets them. There is a real difference in what comes home.

Rest time is not filler. A daycare that runs dogs hard for eight straight hours sends home a wrecked dog, and owners assume that is what daycare is supposed to do. It is not. Structured rest is what makes a dog want to come back tomorrow.
Dogs are grouped by temperament and play style rather than size alone. A gentle seventy pound dog and a pushy twenty pound dog do not belong in the same group just because one of them is small.
